Yeah, exactly. I mean I can see him seeing her at least a handful of times (victorians did like those damn social calls, and he would love anything to be free from those) and then maybe he sees her out and about in the park/florist/shops, etc. and says hello and they make pleasantries. I see him finding more connection with her (or at least he believes that she's of more worth than the painted peacocks of upper crust), someone of lower class. I imagine she wouldn't know about this other side of him at first, but maybe later she hears gossip about him etc. Both Tristan and Helen are of sort of the same line - upper class who fell, though Tristan's family is still managing to salvage some appearance of wealth. I can see Tristan being enamored by her connection with India and her dislike of England, but I definitely see this conflict for both of them between who they truly are and how much are they willing to show.
(and I totally just envisioned some uber cute scene where in some secluded moment, Tristan calls her "Heleentja" - obviously after she's told him about that, haha - precious! ahh and I just realized that both Tristan and Helen has basically "double" names as well, Tristan/Thomas, Helen/Heleentja - possibilitiesssss c: )

oooh, you know what, this is perfect! so tristan doesn't like to go into opium dens, but there's a huuuge rift in tristan's family because his brother is an opium addict. its one of the things tristan escapes from. so maybe he's asked by his grandmother to go retrieve his brother from the opium den, and jace is about to go into the den and sees tristan basically getting pissed and offers to retrieve his brother for him? i dunno, whatever you think you can see jace doing in this sort of situation. so they sort of form this really odd friendship - i mean jace isn't from the working class, but its not exactly like tristan can be seen with him, and jace will know of his brother and that tristan's from high society - scandalouuuuus! (and that's perfect for the hita+tristan thread! thank you! i'll just make up some nonsense that tristan and jace are already friends for the hita thread, haha)

ZIGANA:
i think first meeting would be best, so she can give him that fortune that he's like UMNO to, haha. so we can start it wherever you would think she would work, obviously lower london. we can always do the docklands and just have it a couple of streets from the docklands, something like that?
JACE:
ooooh fun!! haha i like this really strange friendship, lovelyyy. and then there can always be this kind of...edge to it because of this connection between jace, opium, tristan's brother, etc. etc.

I’ve been meaning to post here but whenever I do I get super distracted. But this time I’ll try to finish. Since I have a few characters it's up to you which one you think will click with Tristan. The character I see interacting the most with Tristan is Avery Mercer. Before becoming a governess in her uncle’s home for her youngest cousin, she used to be from the upper class. While she was no darling of society, people-mostly men who sought to gain the fortune she would inherit- put up with her rather sullen moods and surly disposition. She was engaged to be married before her reputation was tarnished by a scandal involving her French tutor. Her engagement was broken off and she was banished to the countryside until everything settled down for awhile. Normalcy never returned since afterwards her father died leaving her only a paltry sum of his immense fortune. Always terribly proud rather than accept the charity of her uncle, she suggested being a governess instead. Avery isn't the most charming person in the world, and she is prone to more than a few flaws. I was thinking before the events of the past year, they might have known each other. I doubt it might have been on friendly terms. Now that she has lost her social standing, she’s not the same Avery and will probably get along much better with Tristan. If you want to do a first meeting then I was think he arrives with his cousin in tow to a party/tea/soiree thrown at her cousins’. Most likely, she’ll be in some dark corner looking at the guests content to read some dusty book rather than socialize with the rest of the guests. Or, I was thinking we skip this for something else. After seeing Tristan, somehow she learns how he likes to spend time with the lower classes and curious she asks him to take her with him to somewhere like Three-Fingered Jack’s. Seeing that she doesn’t have too much to worry about her reputation, she is free to explore a world she never knew before . That’s just one idea I had.
Another character I had in mind for Tristan is Silas Fletcher, thief extraordinaire. His younger years weren’t easy, and turned to a life of thievery when he ran away from his home. If Tristan were truly to know him he’s realize he has the makings to be the worst of men; he’s manipulative, cunning, ill-tempered, lacks any sort of empathy or affection for everyone except a select few, he’s vain, a liar, and a man mainly concerned with his own pleasures. But of course, Silas only shows what he knows people will accept and will never reveal all the horrible things that lie behind his friendly manner. He’ll be contemptuous of Tristan since it irritates him to no end how the privileged young men come cavorting with the lower classes for fun and then escape to their homes in Belgrave Square. In spite of this or because of this, he’ll try to take advantage of Tristan. He’ll appear like a friend all while considering how to use this relationship to his advantage. Well, that’s all I can type right now before I have a class to go to. My other characters Lillian and Brighton are up for anything too. Lillian is an actress so if Tristan is a fan of the theater he would definitely heard of her. She’s incredibly focused when it comes to her career. She left her family and home in America just to pursue her dreams of acting on the stage. Brighton Cox is the son of a parliament member and goes through life enjoying it the best he can before he must leave it to become a respectable figure in society. In some years time he will become a member of parliament like his father and later hopes to become Prime Minister. Ok, now I really have to go. Let me know what you think (:

IM SO SO SORRY I TOOK PRACTICALLY A MONTH TO REPLY!!! but yes yes yes! i'd love to! I think Avery and Tristan would be absolutely MARVELOUS together, hahah.
i loveeee this idea! i can see Tristan being like "bwahhh?!" and absolutely confused and rather perturbed that she knows about his little secret.

I'm happy that you like my idea, so I was thinking that Avery might have learned Tristan’s secret from one of the maids. Since she’s no longer the wealthy niece of their employer and just the governess, she is more likely to converse with the maids more than before and she overheard the maids talking about him say if they had spotted him at one of her cousins’ parties for example which set the cogs in Avery's mind turning and result in what she deems a brilliant plan for something adventurous, slightly dangerous, and possibly reckless. Of course she wouldn’t reveal his secret since her life isn't completely blemish free either. So the next question is when should we start?

howww about we start where tristan is out and about and he sees avery, and then the cover's blown and instead then she asks him to take her to three fingered jack's and the night can go on from there? did you want avery to reveal to tristan that she knows his secret when he's in working class or playing the upper class part?

Sure that sounds like a good place to start for them and as far as avery revealing to tristan that she knows his secret, I haven't quite decided truthfully. She might reveal it if she can't convince him to take her to three fingered jack's but it does make for a good plot so why not... so i guess avery will tell tristan that she knows about him being in working class while adding that's she's in the same boat too. And for the actual thread I had a few ideas so i can hopefully post it in a few days.

I think the dynamic between Tristan and Emma could be really interesting--not because of their differences, but because of what they have in common. Emma, too, is a lower-middle class citizen, but it would be very cool to see how they play off of each other since he's technically an upperclassman by birth. She has this thing against those with money and power because they've treated her father poorly in the past, but if she doesn't know that he's one of them? I don't know, I think it'd be kind of awesome to see them become friends. It might prove to him that the grass isn't always greener, and it might prove to her that she's stupid for making assumptions about one kind of people. Just some ideas. Your thoughts?

He's a rich boy that slums it and she is a girl form the slums who has come good, widow of a wealthy Mill owner from Manchester. she does often go into the poorer areas of the city simply because she feels at home there and he could be forgiven for mistaking her for a lower class girl as her accent is very broad. He could possibly come across her in the slums, and then later at some high faluting social gathering.

ahh, sorry i need to learn to check this thread more often.
Oooh that'd be really interesting! I really like the idea of her knowing him as lower-class Tristan, and becoming friends and her thinking that she's getting to know him. But then she sees him one day as upper-class Thomas, and everything just gets all thrown up in the air and jumbled.
Oooh, a twin! sorta, haha. It might be kind of more interesting if he first saw her in upper class, and just kind of waved her away as one of the usual society peacocks. But then sees her out on the streets in lower class -- could that jeopardize something for her?
